Europe Travelogue 2014 - Pisa, Italy

After leaving Florence en route to Rome, we decided to do a quick stopover at Pisa. A day trip is all you need if your intention is to see the famous leaning tower.

We deposited our luggage at a bag-drop at the train station and walked to the tower. There is also a public bus that brings you closer to the tower but we walked to save money. Haha. At the same time we get to see more of the city that way as well! It was a 10-15 minute normal-paced walk, pretty doable!

And there it is! In all its slanted glory.

Side track - the tower is actually the campanile that accompanies the Pisa Cathedral (on the right). While that is the Baptistry (on the left).

The slanting is due to poor soil foundation. There is a whole long history of this tower and how they tried to fix the tilt but ended up making it worse. So due to the boosted tourism it brought, they decided to keep it this way.

You have to do the typical touristy propping up shot!!! :P

We spent like over one hour just chilling around the area.

It is actually a really nice place to have a picnic! (This was in the month of May)

From the front of the Cathedral.

Ate at a restaurant on the way back to the train station. I forgot the name but it was recommended by someone online. Pesto pasta, seafood risotto & beef slices? Haha.

After lunch, we headed to Rome!
