Australia Travelogue 2015 - Melbourne (Part 3)

Continuing from my previous posts (read part 1 here, and part 2 here), on the third day we headed to Brighton Beach!

We actually planned to travel with Joel's cousin, K and his wife, M for most part of this Aussie trip. They arrived one day after us. And coincidentally, they booked an airbnb in the same apartment building without prior knowledge! Haha. It was so funny when we were discussing our airbnb address and found out that it was exactly the same. That really made things convenient for us because they had rented a car!

This beach is actually called Dendy Beach, located in the Brighton suburb. But everyone knows it as Brighton Beach anyway! Haha. There are 82 bathing boxes and they have become pretty iconic in their own rights.

Got a very kind passer-by who helped us take many shots!

If you are curious how the inside of this approx $200,000 beach hut looks like, you have your answer! Yes there are no facilities whatsoever (water or electricity) but they still cost as much as a 2-room HDB flat in Singapore.

Bathing box number 67 (to the right of the picture) was sold the previous year for AUD 190,000.

After Brighton, we headed to a drum shop because K was interested to buy a drum! Such an artisan drum that we had to come all the way to Melbourne to get it. Apparently it was hand crafted by a drum making legend.

Next up was lunch at Hammer & Tong 412! One of the more popular cafes in Melbourne.

Was surprised to find a pretty empty cafe. Well may because we were there early at about 11am! It started to fill up soon after.

I had the pollywaffle, a nutella treat on buttermilk waffles for a sweet-tooth like me!

Joel had the braised wild mushrooms with 62 degree egg, coffee crumbs, parsnip and cornbread. Needless to say, the portion was insufficient for him!

M had the omelette, which was just right for her tiny appetite!

And the star of the meal which K ordered was the ramen, which he could not stop raving about!

Although the food was really great, really appetizing and "artisan" (and cooked by a 25-year-old talented chef), I felt that it was quite pricey for the portion. But things in Melbourne are expensive honestly! Well, we were paying for quality. So if you are looking for quality cafe food, I would recommend a visit to Hammer & Tong.

Anyway, cafe food is never cheap even in Singapore - $15 for eggs on bread, but you will order it anyway. lol

The Fitzroy area is quite colorful with graffiti at every turn.

Let's do a candid laughing in the alleyway shot! lol

Totally unsatisfied with our half empty stomach - actually my waffles were quite filling, but I guess it's just itchy mouths, we headed to Massimo gelato a short drive away!

Spoilt for choice!

I forgot what we chose. But we always end up getting something to do with caramel, hazelnut or peanut butter (Joel's preferred choice).

Dinner found us a Mekhong for some comfort viet pho. Ahhhh, I loved this!

And the next morning, bright and early at 5am, we headed to the airport because we are going to TASMANIA!! <3
